The Village Games...
A BIT OF BACKGROUND ON THE GAMES

Farnley Tyas resident George Sawyer sadly died three years ago in a tragic accident, aged just 18 years George had lived in Farnley Tyas all his life, and very much embraced life and was well known in the village.

He attended the village school, worked in the pub and at Field Café from being 14 years old. He set up his own “Handy Man” business aged just 14 and did odd jobs for many of the villagers. He did his Duke of Edinburgh volunteering with the Community Group, helping both in Church and around the village.

George had many friends and along with his best friend, Toby, who lived next door, they were seen regularly around the village on their bikes or with other friends. He loved being with family and friends and being in a Team - he would have loved this event!

Teams are competing for the “George Sawyer Trophy” – a tribute to George which has been made by his Dad, Philip Sawyer, who has his own Stone Masonry business. The trophy and the keepsakes are all handmade with love out of Yorkshire Stone.

The trophy will be kept at the winning teams’ HQ and each Team Captain will also receive a replica small trophy, as a keepsake.
